Fellas, it’s not just our clothes, shoes, and accessories that exemplify our personal style and pursuit of dapperness. Fragrance is a powerful way of expressing yourself, your style, and is an important indicator of how you make an impression on others.
With that said and with spring here and summer just around the corner, there’s no better time to embrace the warm weather and try out some new fragrances. This time of year is all about refreshment after all!
We’ve selected six fragrances for this late spring- early summer with choices for every budget that do not sacrifice quality and the ever-so-important complement factor. From beach to boardroom, these fragrances are sure to keep you feeling confident and smelling amazing.
1.) Cologne by Thierry Mugler ($36- Notino)
The first fragrance on our list is the epitome of that “fresh out of the shower” feel, Thierry Mugler sought out to create a fragrance that matched the scent of a bar of soap he loved while on a trip to Morocco. With notes of bergamot, neroli, African orange flower, and petitgrain, this rather simple unisex fragrance is light, inoffensive, and perfect for work when you just want to smell fresh.
2.) Freshwater Lavender by C.O. Bigelow ($45- Bath & Body Works)
For our second fragrance, picture yourself on the ultimate Mediterranean vacation. Whether you’re thinking of touring the Greek Isles, drinking Limoncello on the Italian coast, or catching rays on the beaches of the French Riviera, this fragrance takes you there with notes of fresh blue waters, Provence lavender, limoncello, and violet. This fragrance shines in the warmer weather and is a go-to, everyday fragrance for both spring and summer that is a compliment getter at work or at play!
3.) Lime Coriander by C.O. Bigelow ($45- Bath & Body Works)
The perfect addition to many of your favorite cocktails, nothing screams summer quite like lime. A citrus fusion of Capri lime and fresh lemongrass blend with coriander leaf and blonde woods for the perfect blend of fruit, herbs, and woods. This casual fragrance is tailor-made for a summer weekend by the beach or drinks by the pool.
Plus, Bath & Body Works carries an entire line of products in these C.O. Bigelow fragrances: cologne, body splash, lotion, body wash, and even hand soap so you can find multiple ways to enjoy them!
4.) Sauvage by Dior ($74- Sephora)
When designing this fragrance, master perfumers set out to evoke “wild, open spaces and blue sky that covers rocky landscapes, hot under the desert sun”. With notes of Calabrian bergamot, ambroxan, pepper, and cedar, Sauvage will definitely have you feeling those Coachella vibes.
This fragrance has surely become a hot seller and is a must-have if you’re looking for something fresh that still has an unforgettable woodsy, masculine base. Although this is an extremely popular fragrance on department store counters around the world, this scent will mix with your body’s unique chemistry that will get you compliments and will last on your skin for hours.
5.) Aqva Amara by Bvlgari ($31- Jet)
Our fifth fragrance shares some of the same desert-like vibes as Sauvage, but is combined with an earthy freshness that make this the most unique of the six on our list.
As one of several spin-offs of the fresh summer favorite Aqva, Aqva Amara by Bvlgari exemplifies it’s copper bottle and name that is translated as “bitter water” with a top note of Sicilian mandarin that dries down to the scent of neroli flower combined with earthy patchouli, white incense, and a splash of fresh water.
The combination of the fresh notes found in several of the fragrances on this list mixed with the earthy herbal patchouli and incense makes for an unexpected but compliment getting summertime fragrance… and we can’t forget how strong and long-lasting this one is.. we could smell it for hours.
6.) Versace Pour Homme by Versace ($34- Notino)
The last fragrance on this list is an example of the perfect aquatic scent. Versace Pour Homme opens with a blast of zesty bergamot and fresh neroli like some of the other fragrances on this list, but develops as it is on your skin. When Versace Pour Homme dries down, herbal notes of green sage combine with a floral note of hyacinth, before giving way to a smooth, masculine base of woods, amber, tonka bean, and musk. This fragrance really has it all when it comes to this time of year. It is truly a classic yet modern and versatile scent. This can be worn with a suit or bathing suit, cutting through the heat of the warmer months.
But wait… there’s more… It’s one thing to buy a fragrance and start using it, but do you know how to wear a fragrance the right way?
In order to get maximum projection, the highest compliments, and best staying power, you will have to spray your favorite fragrance on what are known as “pulse points”. Pulse points are designated areas on your body that get the warmest. By applying your fragrance to various pulse points on your body, the warmth of your body essentially activates the oils of the fragrance you are wearing and makes it more accessible and recognizable to those around you. But where are pulse points, you ask? Some popular pulse points that stimulate fragrance best are your neck and wrist, but also behind your knees, on top of your ears, and inside your elbows.
Sound strange? Give it a try with these fragrances and see the reactions (and compliments) you get.
That’s all for now, gentlemen.
As always, Stay dapper.
